The Big Optician Blog Blog posts for The Big Optician en-gb Copyright 2019 Focus Over Forty Starting to have difficulty reading? If so, and you're aged over 45, then you're probably experiencing presbyopia. This is not a disease, but is caused by the natural ageing process of your eyes. It affects nearly everyone as they get older and restricts their ability to focus easily on close objects. The result is blurred vision or tired eyes, especially when reading in poor light.

Fortunately, we're able to help you deal with this condition. For example, if you have never needed vision correction before, you may now just require reading glasses for close work. However, if you already wear spectacles, then you have several choices. You may decide to have different glasses for distance and reading, although this can be inconvenient. Or you may choose a pair which performs both functions, such as bifocal or varifocal spectacles.

Varifocal (also known as progressive) lenses are the modern solution.

We're a fan of Ray-Ban I'm sure I dont need to spend too much time introducing Ray-Ban to you!

Classic Persol These are instantly recognisable and classic frames. Originally catering for pilots and sports drivers, Persol had to deliver quality to such affluent audiences.

In order to acheive this standard, the frames are made by hand with the highest quality materials. From the crystal lenses to the acetate and metal frames to the iconic arrow and hidden technologies beneath the surface - Persol bring you a work of art!

The stunning new vintage collection arrives after Persol explored the fascination with the past. Taking us further back in time is the Antique range. In their continuous search for the authentic vintage feel, the acetate tumbling process mentioned in a previous Persol blog has been perfected. This allows new styles to be given the timeless appeal of an antique frame.

So whether you're after a classic and mature frame or to add a vintage accessory to your modern day look - Persol has a frame for you!

Anglo American aims for perfection! If you're after a vintage look with a modern twist then this is the brand for you!

Having perfected the art of frame-making, Anglo American have 120 years of experience. In the 1990's Anglo American tried to move the brand forward. The brand stays true to itself yet still has a modern feel which appeals to everyone.

Anglo American once boasted that 'with each frame being handled at least seventy-five times in forty-three operations, and being checked a minimum of fifteen times it may not be the cheapest way to make a frame but for Anglo American Eyewear it is the only way!' This shows you the time taken and the desire to bring you such high quality products and by just looking at the range in The BIG Optician you can see they have reached this goal.

The only thing Anglo American left us at The BIG Optician to do is to fit your frame so it is all round perfection!

Do you dare to be different? Anglo American dared to be different in the 70's when they created basic shapes but in a larger size than was common at the time. That daring streak continues as they still deliver quirky and fun designs for us to enjoy.

Since launching a store on Park Avenue in New York, Anglo American have never looked back having worldwide success. They have been a trend-setter of the heavy brow bar on frames as well as using fashionable colours and shapes that we may never have dared to try!

This daring streak was something that the one and only Dame Edna Everage, played by Barrie Humphries, embraced. Whether it be butterfly shaped frames or using Humphries' own ideas of 'curls' and 'flames', Anglo American along with costume designer Stephen Adnitt provided 'face furniture' worth talking about!

Now with similar frames to Curvebar and Sirmont and some of which being worn by Johnny Depp and Michael Cain CBE, there is a frame for the more refined of us!

Ray-Ban : Isle of Wight Festival 2012 Celebrities were out in force at this year's Isle of Wight Festival and as usual the majority were wearing their ubiquitous Ray-Bans. Ray-Ban wearing celebs such as KelisProfessor Green and Katy B all made a bee-line for the Ray-Ban VIP area which this year included a vintage pub-themed beer garden. We're told that Tinie Tempah and Suggs were getting along famously. Pickled egg anyone...?

Madge on Graham Norton Was anyone else as speechless as me at how incredibly youthful Madonna looked on The Graham Norton Show last week? On the show promoting her new movie, 'W.E.', (which, incidentally, stars local lass Andrea Riseborough as Wallace Simpson), Madge looked ever so serene with not a single line crinkling that perfect brow. Funny that!

Did you catch her reference to her beloved Miu Miu sunglasses that she's been wearing recently at all her red-carpet events: 'Miuccia will love these'  Madonna said, when Graham gave her a tiny pair of replica red Miu Miu sunglasses that had been lovingly made for her by two Italian fans.  Madge had to spoil it by saying 'They're not quite the right shape though'.

Some people are never happy!  Check out the actual Miu Miu sunglasses at The Big Optician, the only stockiest of Miu Miu eyewear in the North East.'

Lindberg the choice for The Jury's new QC Anyone watching the recent ITV series The Jury, can't have failed to have admired the Lindberg rimless spectacles worn by Julie Walters.

Julie starred as Emma Watts QC in the compelling, character-based drama screened last week and was wearing a very flattering Lindberg titanium rimless frame with red acetate sides. Lindberg rimless glasses are of the lightest and most comfortable spectacles in the world and are favoured by many celebs and others in the public eye. Since the screening of The Jury we have had lots of enquiries about which frame Julie Walters was wearing.

We are pleased to confirm we are one of Newcastle's few suppliers of Lindberg spectacles and we currently have that frame in stock.
