Choosing An Optician
Recent research by Which?, the UK's leading consumer organisation, reveals that independent practices are rated as top opticians by the public.
The survey of 5409 Which? members measured customer service, product quality and choice, communication and the likelihood of recommmending an optician to a friend. It discovered that independent practices have the highest customer satisfaction score of 88%.
Editor of Which? Richard Headland says: "Not all optician stores are the same and we found big difference between them." One national chain, for example, received a customer satisfaction score of just 59%.
An independent optician is not part of a large multiple group and instead is usually owned by the optometerist or dispensing optician working there. Independent parcatices take pride in being part of the local community and in providing a professional service tailored to each individual patient.
The Which? report offers advice on buying glasses. On choosing frames it says: "The mark-up on cheaper frames tends to be higher - you'll get better value if you spend more." It also recommends that spectacles should be bought from the practice which carried out your eye test because "resolving issues can become complicated if you go to different stores."
